Abstract

Stages and scope of the research work carried out in the framework of integrated groundwater monitoring system in Gdańsk and Sopot in 2011–2014.
A b s t r a c t. This paper synthetically describes the stages and methods used in the course of research carried out within the integrated groundwater monitoring system in Gdańsk and Sopot in 2011–2014. The study was divided into 3 stages: surveillance, operational and research monitoring. Surveillance monitoring, implemented in 2011–2012, involved comprehensive assessment of the groundwater state. Operational monitoring, carried out in 2013, was intended to confirm the previously identified hydrogeochemical anomalies and to establish ongoing trends in quality changes. The third stage of the research was conducted in post-industrial and urban areas of Gdańsk, where groundwater contamination had been identified. The work focused on the determination of the type, extent, concentration and rate of transport of contaminants. Another task was to prepare a tool enabling efficient use of collected information. It was decided to create a platform for hydrogeological information exchange (environmental database) in the form of geoMonitoring web application.
