Abstract

The assessment of in-situ soil density using nuclear method – preliminary results.
A b s t r a c t. Soil compaction is one of the key factors during construction investments. There are several methods of measurement and the moisture-density nuclear gauge is of them. The gauge is popular in the USA but in Poland is practically unused besides the measurements of the post flotation wastes so the authors decided to conduct non-destructive isotopic test to determine the density and soil compaction during construction project. Nuclear method was tested and evaluated in the relation to traditional method (drive cylinder). The results were similar, R2 = 0.99 for wet soil and R2= 0.94 for dry soil but testing by nuclear-gauge ismuch faster and easier to operate.
