A b s t r a c t. The paper presents the issue of geological-engineering evaluation of ability to volume changes in
Mio-Plioceneclays from the area of Budy Mszczonowskie. It has been stated that these clays are characterized by a high content ofclay fraction with beidellite as a dominant clay mineral. For the evaluation of expansiveness, both direct andindirect test methods are used. Expansive features, i.e. swelling pressure and swelling index, are presented in relation to initial moisture content.
