Abstract

Polish contribution to the activity of International Seabed Authority.A b s t r a c t. Poland is the state-member of International Seabed Authority (ISA) – the international organization established in 1994 based on the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982). The Polish role was particularly important between 1994 and 1996 during creation of the first ISA council. Academic research of marine mineral deposits is conducted in several Polish research institutions located in Szczecin, Warszawa, Sopot, Poznañ and Kraków. Polish scientists participate in many large international research projects of oceanic minerals. Poland organizes important international events concerning the geology of marine mineral deposits: conferences, symposiums and seminars. Initially, the Polish involvement was limited to legal matters, and then extended to the geology of the sea and marine mineral deposits.
