Abstract

ANALYSIS OF SHEARING STRENGTH MEASUREMENTS IN THE BASEMENT OF A PROJECTED DAM AT NIEDZICA Summary The article gives the results of the shearing strength measurements made in the basement of a projected dam at Niedzica. The measurement were made on limestones, limestone breccia and at the contact of concrete and limestone. It may be ascertained in the light of the examinations considered that the shearing strength of the limestones, considering their steep dip amounting to 70, is relatively good, whereas at places, where the dip amounts to about 30, the strength is twofold lower, at least. Adherence of concrete to limestone is also relatively well. Considerably lower (2-3 times) and more diversified shearing strength may by observed in the limestone breccia. As a result of the low values of shearing strength in the limestone breccia, a decision has been made to shift the projected axis of the dam from the contact zone with marls as far as the contact with radiolarites.
