Abstract

EVALUATION OF HYDROPHILITY OF COMPACT SOILS IN THE LIGHT OF EXAMINATION OF HEAT OF WETTING Summary The article presents a description of modified differential calorimeter of KR type adapted to measure both short-lasting and long-lasting thermal effects. As a result of the measurements of heat of wetting (Q cal/g) 1n standard soils (kaolinite from Sedlec, bentonite from Chmielnik) and in clay soils from Machów, as well as in bentonite soils from Radzionków, the Q values are thought to depend mainly upon the mineral composition of sails and upon the character of sorption complex, which affect various hydrophility of soils.
