Abstract

GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF CARBON DIOXYDE EXHALATIONS AS A METHOD OF PROSPECTING ACIDULOUS MINERAL WATERS, EXEMPLIFIED BY INVESTIGATIONS AT SZCZAWNICA, CARPATHIANS

Summary
A geochemical method of measuring CO2 content in soil air was applied at Szczawnica, Carpathians, to prospect acidulous mineral waters. This method proved to be effective even in the case of a very low CO2 content in the soil. The authors discuss the factors which may influence the location and shapes of CO2 anomalies, as shown by geochemical map: the direction and gradient of ground water flow in permeable terrace gravel, and the screen effect of impermeable terrace clays against carbon dioxide exhalations.
