Abstract

GEOLOGICAL STRUCTURE OF PERI-BALTIC SYNECLISE AND CONDITIONS OF BITUMEN OCCURRENCE

Summary
As a result of regional geological researches, made in the Polish Lowland area before 1962, Polish part of the Peri-Baltic was, among others selected for further geophysical and geological explorations. The results of these works realized in the years 1963-1967, are presented in two elaborations concerning the geological structure and the perspectives of occurrence of hydrocarbon deposits. The examinations were concentrated mainly on the development of sedimentary series, tectonics of hydrocarbon occurrence sites, hydrochemistry and hydrodynamical relations of underground waters and geochemistry of bitumens. As a result of the research works, trends of further geological prospecting works have been determined. It is necessary to conduct both detailed complex geological and geophysical researches to recognize more in detail various deformational traps, frequently not detectable by seismical methods. Penetration by drilling and testing of promising horizons is of great importance, as well. The most valuable perspectives in search for hydrocarbon deposits are thought to be related to the series of Cambrian, Ordovician and Lower Silurian rocks. Permian formations seem to be less perspective ones. Mesozoic can be regarded as perspective one, only as concerns the deeper, western part of the Peri-Baltic syneclise.
