ESCARPMENT PROTECTION BY MEANS OF EARTH EMBANKMENT IN THE OPENCUT MINE "TURÓW"
Summary
The article presents a method of protecting escarpments subject to sliding (4.8 mill. m3), different from those so far applied in opencast mining. The difference here considered consists in the character of a dump and in the size and amount of the dumped earth mass. Physical and mechanical properties of the basement and of the dumped overburden are given; site, size and technique of construction of a protecting earth embankment are determined; and the individual steps of realization are established.
