Abstract

MUSCHELKALK FORMATIONS ON THE AREA BETWEEN OPOLE AND BORONÓW

Summary
The Muschelkalk formations found in the north-western marginal area of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin have so far been described by P. Assmann, mainly on the basis of bore holes made at Opole and Leśna. The present work deals with the new Mushelkalk sections examined at Ozimek, Lubliniec and Boronów, and the stratigraphical position of the formations encountered. Moreover, the author makes a parallelization of the sections examined, with those from Opole and Leśna. The presence of anhydrite found in the Middle Muschelkalk formations at Lubliniec is very interesting here. In addition, the present author made an analysis of percentage contents of marls and dolomites in the individual sections. On the basis of the analysis of development of deposits and of their thickness, the author discusses palaeogeographical problems and draws a conclusion as to a shallowing of the Middle Muschelkalk sea in the region of Lubliniec, as compared with that from the Opole area.
