POSSIBILITIES OF DAMPING MULTIPLE REFLECTIONS IN THE METHOD OF MULTIPLE COVERINGS (PART I) Summary The paper discusses the principle of using method of multiple coverings, called also the method of common reflection point, taking into account its ability of damping multiple reflections. Part I demonstrates that a possibility exists at distinguishing and dampi.ng multiple reflections if the velocity of the propagation of seismic waves increases with depth, provided that the recording is made with the aid of sufficiently long geophone spacing. The effectiveness of this method depends upon the time of recording of reflections and decreases with its increase.
