Abstract

REMARKS ON MICROELEMENTS IN ASHES OF CARBONIFEROUS LEPIDOPHYTES WITHIN THE UPPER SILESIAN COAL BASIN Summary The present work is a contribution to the explanation of the origin of the individual microelements found to occur in hard coal ashes. Trace elements have been determined in ashes of 15 samples of charred fragments of lepidophytes, which make the main coal-forming group of the Carboniferous vegetation. Such chemical elements as Cu, Cr and V, found to appear in the samples examined, prove that they are constituents of organic ash. Of considerable importance are here radioactive elements such as Th and U or Th, which occur in all the samples studied. This allows the author to suppose that the Carboniferous lepidophytes have played a considerable part in the process of concentration of these chemical elements in coal measures.
