Abstract

SOME NEW DATA ON THE GEOLOGICAL STRUCTURE OF THE SZCZECIN SYNCLINORIUM IN THE LIGHT OF RECENT SEISMIC WORKS

Summary
The paper discusses new data on the structure of the Szczecin synclinorium in the light of recent seismic work. On the basis of this work the following three structural stages have been distinguished tithing the sedimentary complex, as indicated by angular discordances: the sub-Zechstein, the Zechstein-Mesozoic, and the Cainozoic one. Short characteristics of each of the structural stages are given. The present authors distinguish three structural belts running in the NW-SE direction and connected with various degrees of development of salt tectonics. The first belt (Nowogard - Szamotuły) is situated in the northern part of the Szczecin synclinorium and it is characterized by an intensive development of salt tectonics. The second belt (Żarnowo - Mężyk) occupies the central part of the synclinorium. As compared with the first belt, the second one shows less intensive salt tectonics. The third structural belt (Gryfino - Piłka) is situated south of the Żarnowo - Mężyk belt. From among the three structural units the third one shows the least marked salt tectonics. Occurrences of fault zones in the sub-Zechstein complex and the monocline-block structure of the stage are supposed. The occurrences of flexures within the Mesozoic complex quite often seem to correspond to the fault zones in the sub-Zechstein. The proposed boundary between the Szczecin synclinorium and the Fore-sudetic monocline is more precisely defined on the basis of the seismic data.
