Abstract
NEW TECTONICS OF THE TERRESTRIAL GLOBE (PART II) Summary New orogenic theory, based on plate tectonics of lithosphere has recently been developed. It connects orogenic processes with subduction phenomena. Two types of orogeny are distinguished. The first, called Andean or Cordilleran type, was formed under a dominant influence of thermal processes. The second, called Himalayan type, arose as a result of an intercontinental collision, accompanied by strong mechanical factors.Downloads
