Abstract

PRELIMINARY PETROGRAPHICAL DESCRIPTION OF GLAUCONITE SANDS FROM OVERBURDEN OF SILICA EARTH DEPOSITS IN THE LUBLIN REGION Summary The article presents the results of granulometric and mineralogenic-petrographical studies of Oligocene glauconite sands from Góra Puławska, Krzywowola and Lechówka, and of Miocene glauconite sands from Piotrowice and Opoka Duża. The results of the studies demonstrate that the sands are fine-grained, homogenous, their glauconite content amounting to 20%; a certain part falls to clay admixture. From this point of view, the glauconite sands correspond to the requirements of industry as a material used for foundry practice and may be an object of interest for metallurgy.
