Abstract

COMPARISON OF X-RAY AND INFRARED QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS OF CALCITE-DOLOMITE SYSTEM Summary The ratio calcite : dolomite in artificial mixtures has been determined by measuring the areas under the peaks of X-ray diffractograms (d = 3.03 and 2.88 Å) and infrared absorption bands (712 and 730 cm-1). Calibration curves have been obtained by using methods of two-component mixtures, internal standard and known admixtures. Both X-ray and infrared methods have given a similar relative error which in !the case of the two-component mixtures and the internal standard calibration, did not exceed ± 5 %. The calibration of known admixtures has given relatively poorer results.
