SWELLING OF CLAY MINERALS IN WATER AND IN ORGANIC LIQUIDS
Summary
Man ideas on structure and swelling properties of clay minerals have been presented. The authors have in view an interlayer rather than an interparticle swelling. Montmorillonite and vermiculite water complexes, as well as ethylene glycol and glycerol complexes have been mentioned. Finally, both natural and artificial swelling processes of minerals of kaolinite group have been shortly described, too.
