Abstract

ON THE CAUSES OF HYDROMICATIZATION OF KAOLINITE (TONSTEIN) INTERCALATIONS IN COAL SEAMS

Summary
An example of intense alternation of kaolinites (tonsteins) intercalating coal seams is given. The author, a member of the scientific staff of the University at Kharkov, has carried out studies on the above problem over the area of the Donets basin. The studies show that features of kaolinite intercalation such as thickness, colour, chemical and mineral composition, and others, appear to be highly constant over the whole area in which these intercalations occur. Owing to this peculiarity, kaolinite layers are of great value, for correlation, and the coal seams yielding them appear to be excellent marker beds.
