Abstract

TREATMENT OF RESIDUARY SANDS FROM "ZĘBIEC" PLANT ACCORDING TO FOUNDING REQUIREMENTS AS AN EXAMPLE OF SELECTING A PROPER METHOD OF SEPARATION Summary The mining-metallurgy plant at Zębiec near Starachowice produces a concentrate of iron, so called "żelgruda", of ferruginous sands occurring in its vicinity. After the concentration processes, a raw material for metallurgy with c. 85% -Fe2O3 content, as well as remarkable amounts of residuary (post-flotational) sands are obtained. The iron oxide content in these residuary sands is yet quite high. This, as well as the resulting rusty colour make these sands difficult to sell. However, the sands are characterized by a high temperature of agglomeration, so it would be possible to adapt them to the requirements of founding, after elaborating suitable method of separation. The authors discuss the process of treating the sands according to the foundering requirements as an example of selecting a suitable separation method.
