Abstract

ON REGIONAL KAOLINIZATION OF ELASTIC MIDDLE VISEAN DEPOSITS IN THE NORTHERN PART OF THE INTRA-SUDETIC BASIN Summary The Middle Visean conglomerates of the Intra- Sudetic Basin are found to be kaolinized, mainly in their middle and upper portions. Kaolinite developed at the expanse of feldspars and of feldspar-rich rocks, predominantly volcanic ones. Scanty kaolinite cement is a common feature here; thin veinlets of dickite have also been encountered. There is growing evidence that the kaolinization followed deposition and cementation. Most likely it was preceeded by a relatively strong tectonic activity and can hypothetically be related with the Late Variscan volcanic activity, a phenomenon well known from the Lower Silesian, Coal Basin.
