Abstract

GROUNDWATER GASES AS INDICES CI OIL AND GAS-BEARING Summary In the present paper, chemical components of gases from groundwaters, and chemical compositions of gases from sedimentary cover, and particularly gases occurring in oil- and gas-bearing series are discussed. Principles of optimalization of oil and earth gas accumulations prospecting on the basis of chemical analysis of composition of ground-Water gases are given. The studies show that gases from oil- and gas-bearing series are sometimes highly differentiated in chemical composition. Occurrence of gases containing remarkable amounts of methane and continuous series of heavier hydrocarbons in groundwater may be treated as undoubtful positive index of perspective of occurrence of oil and gas accumulations. However, it is advisable to carry out a complex analysis of the results obtained, taking into account geological and hydrogeological setting of oil and gas accumulations. Isotope studies and determinations of gas content in groundwaters and groundwater pressure are of great help here.
