Abstract

ARGILLITES FROM THE VICINITY OF NOWA RUDA

Summary
Progress in studies and the present state of knowledge of Nowa Ruda argillites are discussed. Argillites were known to outcrop in "Nowa Ruda" mine at Drogosław near Nowa Ruda and in "Słupiec" mine at Słupiec, and more recently were found to occur in the vicinity of Nowy Dzikowiec, a town situated between the two former areas (Fig. 1). These data confirm the old assumptions that the argillites presumably form a continuous layer, stretching from Drogosław as far as "Słupiec" mine area, along SW side of gabbro-diabase massif. Thus, the argillite resources may be much larger than it was hitherto assumed. It is worth nothing that the argillites are deposits richest in aluminium oxide in Poland, and at the same tune their industrial utilization has not started yet. Usually, Al2O3 content exceeds 30 per cent, occasionally approaching even 50 per cent.
