Abstract

APPLICATION OF THE DARK FIELD TECHNIQUE IN MICROSCOPIC STUDIES ON KAOLINES Summary Microscopic studies of kaolines are relatively rarely applied in comparison to the physical-mechanical techniques. In case of kaolines, the method of microscopic studies utilizing dark field, occasionally used in the mineralogy, appears particularly useful. This method provides valuable data on contaminations occurring in fine fractions (≤ 2 μm) and on distribution of contaminations in coarser grains. The paper presents preliminary results of the application of the modified dark-field method in light microscope. The modified technique enables observations of shapes and sizes of fine grains(e.g. grains of the fraction ≤ 1 μm), due to an increased resolution power.
