Abstract
GEOLOGICAL SETTING OF GAS FIELD FROM MIOCENE DEPOSITS OF THE RACIBORSKO AREA
Summary
Gas field newly found in Miocene deposits of the Carpathian Foredeep covered by the Carpathian overthrust is described. The gas field is localized in northern part of Raciborsko - Dobczyce tectonic block, being a part of Rzeszotary - Dobczyce - Wiśniowa elevation. The present structure of this block is the result of its repeated tectonic remodelling. Gas occurs in sandstone-siltstone horizons of the top parts of the Badenian, truncated from above by the Carpathian overthrust. Tectonic enclosure from the uplifted side of the block is formed by two dislocation planes, and from above - by the overthrust. The gas field is of migrational nature; gas migration took place in the post-Early Sarmatian times. Towards the south, other earth gas accumulations may be expected under similar structural conditions.
