Abstract

ORES OF THE OLD PALEOZOIC DEPOSITS FROM THE NORTH-EASTERN MARGIN OF THE UPPER SILESIAN COAL BASIN

Summary
It is stated that the prognoses of ore occurrences hitherto made for the old Paleozoic deposits forming substratum of the Mesozoic ones in north-eastern margin of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin appear to be questionable. The development and pre-Devonian metamorphism of the old Paleozoic deposits indicate their connections with Caledonian geosyncline stretching over the area of Central and Northern Europe (S. Stille, 1950; J. Znosko, 1964, 1965). A very close metallogeny of Caledonian complexes of the eastern and western Carpathians and Scandinavia, characterized by widespread occurrence of deposits of "copper-bearing pyrite" formations of the Rio-Tinto type, suggests possible occurrence of similar deposits in old Paleozoic series in the area studied. This seems to be supported by the results of preliminary prospectings.
