Abstract

TUFFOGENIC GUIDE HORIZON OF ORZESKIE BEDS FROM SOUTHERN PART OF THE UPPER SILESIAN COAL BASIN Summary The purpose of the article was a discussion of tuffogenic horizon found in Orzeskie beds (Westfalian B) in the area between Miłkowo, Imielin, Brzeszcze and Kryry (Fig. 1). The horizon was found in 22 boreholes.• Studies on the structure and mineral composition of rocks of this horizon allowed them to be assigned to highly altered ash or lithoclastic-ash tuffs with an admixture of detrital material. As coal seams occurring in the proximity of the tuffogenic horizon discussed here were differently identified in various parts of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin, this horizon has a great significance for deposits geology when correlating coal seams, which, in case of Orzeskie beds, show great variability
