Abstract

THE RESULTS OF MICROPALEONTOLOGICAL STUDIES ON THE MIOCENE FROM DRILLINGS IN THE STOPNICA AREA (CENTRAL POLAND) Summary The paper deals with the results of micropaleontological studies on Miocene deposits from boreholes Okrągła 31/9, Łęg 37/9, Pióry 35/9, Rudniki 27/7, Monki 28, Sieragi 13/3, and Połaniec. 26, situated in the area of Stopnica (margins of the Holy Cross Mts). The Miocene series may be divided into: - Lower Badenian with microfaunistic assemblage typical of the facies of Lithothamnium limestones (the horison with Amphistegina lessonii); - zone with Orbulina suturalis, typical of "Lancendorfian" microfaunistic assemblage of the Lower Badenian; - zone with Neobulimina longa, representing lower part of the Upper Badenian; - zone with Hanzawaia crassisepta, indicative of the upper parts of the Upper Badenian. The Sarmatian is here represented by the zone with Anomalinoides dividens, indicative of the lower parts of the Volynian substage, and by the zone with Elphidium hauerinum, indicative of the upper parts of that substage. It should be noted that a part of the deposits was drilled without coring, which resulted in some breaks in the profiles analysed. However, the character of microfaunistic assemblages was sufficiently distinct for reliable datings to be made.
