Abstract

GEOTHERMAL CONDITIONS IN THE ŁĘCZNA PART OF THE LUBLIN COAL BASIN

Summary
The paper presents the characteristics of geothermal field, geoisotherm maps and mean values of geothermal gradient for the area of newly discovered Lublin coal basin. The studies have shown that the values of the geothermal gradient are much greater in Carboniferous strata than in the blanket deposits. The differences are interpreted in terms of the effect of conective heat flow in permeable and water-bearing Jurassic, Cretaceous and Tertiary strata. The temperature conditions prevailing at the depths at which the coal exploitation is planned, 0.8-1 km depths, appear to be advantageous. The temperatures do not exceed 36 °C at 1 km depth. The value of heat flow calculated for the area studied is relatively high, equal 1.79 NFV. The geothermal conditions under which Carboniferous strata occur here are anomalous in respect to those prevailing in the neighbouring areas of the Lublin region.
