POSSIBILITIES OF USE OF MINERAL WATERS FROM GDAŃSK GULF AREA IN THE LIGHT OF THE STUDIES CARRIED OUT BY THE GEOLOGICAL INSTITUTE

Summary
Mineral waters were found in deep drillings made in the area of Gdańsk Gulf by the staff of the Geological Institute of Poland. On account of favourable environmental setting this area is very suitable for location of new health resorts. Creation of the new health resorts may be accompanied by making intakes of mineral waters found in Krynica Morska IG-1, Gdańsk IG-1, Sopot IG-1 and Hel IG-1 drillings. The Bundsandstein horizon (Triassic) appears to be the most suitable for intake of the mineral waters. It yields chlorinesodium, iodine, bromide and boron waters with mineralization varying from 24.5 g/l to 51.5 g/l along with depth of occurrence of the aquilifer rocks. There is self outflow of the waters which markedly facilitates their exploitation. The output is fairly large, ranging from 15 to 48 m3/h. Temperature of the waters is rather low, from +18 to +24 °C, thus the waters should be warmed before use for medical purposes. The chemical composition of the waters as well as pressure and output are suitable and favourable for development of health resorts along the Gdańsk Gulf.
