Abstract

PRELIMINARY ANALYSES OF THERMIC SWELLING OF STAGNANT-LAKE CLAYS FROM ŁUBNA, PIASECZNO AREA Summary Natural swelling of clay raw rnaterials under the influence of thermal energy is used in production of artificial light aggregates. The light aggregates may be used in building industry as concrete filler as well as producing thermoinsulating materials. The research project dealing with the possibilities of production of light aggregates for insulating materials, carried out by the Institute of Fire-Proof Materials in Gliwice, comprised the tests on swelling of stagnant-lake clays of “Łubna” deposit. The clays are used in production of bricks, thin-walled materials and roofing-tiles. The results of swelling tests of these clays appeared to be interesting and potentially useful for the building industry.
