Abstract

PETROLOGICAL STUDIES ON BASALT DEPOSITS FROM SULIKÓW

Summary
Tertiary basalts from Sulików form intrusion in the form of plug, passing in marginal parts into lava cover (3, 7). The substratum is formed of graywackes and phyllitized clay-sandy slates markedly resembling Kaczawa Ordovician rocks (9). From the point of view of petrology the basalts are represented by nephelinites, ankaratrites, limburginites and, sometimes, by basalts proper and basanites (8) (see Table I). This differentiation has the nature of mixing of during crystallization of basic magma. The chemical analyses (Table II) have shown impoverishment in silica and increased alkalinity, typical of the rocks of Atlantic igneous series (7); normative composition of these rocks corresponds to that of trachybasalts and basanites (Table III). Chemical weathering processes are highly intense in the case of glassy basalts and their tuffs, whereas scale processes - in ankaratrytes and nephelinites.
