Abstract

EVOLUTION OF THE EASTERN PART OF THE FORE-SUDETIC BLOCK IN THE CENOZOIC

Summary
The Cenozoic of the eastern part of the Fore-Sudetic block reflects intense climatic changes and tensional vertical movements. Laterite covers are related to the warm and• humid climate of the Eocene; the formation of kaolin covers started in the Miocene. Vertical consedimentational movements resulted in origin of geomorphological faults. Limnic sedimentary basin was gradually developing towards the south. During the Late Miocene it encroached on hitherto existing part of Meta-Carpathian swell represented by the eastern part of the Fore-Sudetic block. In this way the basin became connected with Fore-Carpathian marine basin stretching along the edge of the eastern basin, and more precisely, with a branch of this Sudety Mts. The sedimentary basin retreated at the end of Tertiary. Subsequently, gravels of Gozdnica series originated. Vertical movements were continuing during the Quaternary; their effect is reflected by the position of gravel covers. Volcanic activity (basalts) took place till the beginning of the Sudetic phase of the Mid Polish Glaciation.
