Abstract

REMARKS ON STRATIGRAPHY OF THE MIDDLE JURASSIC DEPOSITS BETWEEN THE ŚWIĘTY KRZYŻ MTS AND BUG RIVER Summary The paper is an attempt to present stratigraphy of the Middle Jurassic in the Lublin region and in part of Podlasie region. An almost complete lack of ammonites, connected with a specific development of the Middle Jurassic and Oxfordian deposits of these areas, impedes determining stratigraphy of the individual complexes. However, on several very detailed bore hole profiles and on a correlation with the profiles of the central parts of the Middle Jurassic epicontinental basin, some concluions may be drawn as follows. In the Lublin and Podlasie areas only two Middle Jurassic members are found, i.e. Upper Bathonian and Upper Callovian, separated by a stratigraphical break in Lower Callovian. A very detailed profiling allows to observe several characteristic common key horizons which may be excellently correlated not only in the area discussed, but also in the adjacent regions, where palaeontological data directly, or indirectly determine their stratigraphical positions. In the area considered the overburden of the Upper Callovian deposits consists of the Lower Oxfordian deposits (Divesian and Neuvisean) that distinctly differ from the Upper Callovian ones in that case, when this latter is represented by nodular bed. In the case when the uppermost Callovian is developed as a complex of organodetrital, crinoidal limestones, sedimentation of such a type is to be traced in the Lower Oxfordian as well.
