Abstract
THE BARANÓW SANDS IN THE VICINITIES OF ŚWINIARY
Summary
The present article comprises the results of studies made in the region of Świniary near Sandomierz. The stratigraphy of the Baranów sands has been discussed generally, however, their lithological profile and the depositional aspects have been characterized in detail. In addition, their mineralogic-petrographical, granulometrical and chemical characteristics are given, as well. The Baranów sands occurring in the vicinities of Świniary were investigated as a material useful for the purposes of metallurgic and glass industries. The technological properties of the sands have been analyzed also from this point of view, and the analysis resulted in an estimate that these may be used in metallurgic industry for middle and fine cast iron details. In the glass industry the sands may be useful, first of all, as a raw material for production of glass containers and glass insulators.
