Abstract
ON SULPHUR OCCURRENCE IN THE KRZESZOWICE GRABEN
Summary
The Tortonian deposits occurring in the Krzeszowice graben (Fig. l) at Wola Filipowska, approximately 2,5 km west of Krzeszowice, were characterized and two facies of these deposits were distinguished (Fig. 2). At the gypsum horizon of the northern facies altered post-gypsum limestones were encountered, in which some traces of dusty sulphur are preserved. In addition, at the top of the Skawina beds occurring below, crystalline sulphur fills up crevices and locally replaces the calcareous-marly cementing material of conglomerates. Owing to the presence of fine pyrite dust, the roundstones and fragments of Jurassic limestones representing the main body of the rock mass are of. black colour. The origin of the pyrite appears to be closly connected with the migration of the solutions rich in sulphuretted hydrogen, and with the reduction of the iron compounds occurring in limestones. Changes at the gypsum horizon may be seen mainly in the zone of a fault, restricting the Krzeszowice graben from the north, similarly as it is in the case of sulphur occurrence at Czarkowy and Rybnik.
