Abstract

OUTLINE OF GEOLOGICAL STRUCTURE IN THE VICINITIES OF CHMIELNIK-TARNOBRZEG

Summary
The paper embraces a preliminary synthesis of the results of geological research works made during 1955-1964. The tectonical sketch of the Mesozoic and Palaeozoic deposits is shown on Fig. l, the geological structure of the Miocene formations is illustrated on Fig. 2 and 3. The Miocene substratum consists of the Cambrian deposits and of remaining Palaeozoic and Mesozoic formations, however, considerable stratigraphical breaks may also been observed, at places. In the vicinities of Busko-Staszów-Sandomierz-Zawichost outlines of new, hitherto unknown geological structures have been observed. The further reconnaissance of these structures may help in deepening of geological-prospecting conceptions within the area considered. An exception makes here the structure of Brzozówka, where the Eocambrian directly rests under the Miocene. The zone of the southern extent of the Lower (Holmia) Cambrian was determined, as well (Fig. 1).
Precisely determined Palaeozoic structural elements of the northern side of the Opatów anticlinorium represent new interesting facts there. Here was determined the presence of Ordovician and Silurian deposits, as well as a large slice of Old Red formations. The structural scheme of the area is here complicated by the transversal dislocation zones (Fig. 1). The dislocations restricting the eastern extent of the Mesozoic belong here to the considerably important ones. The boundaries of Triassic and Jurassic and theri several structural elements have also been discussed in the paper.
The presence of the Buntsandstein, Mushelkalk, Keuper and Rhaetian (Triassic amounts together to 850-900 m in thickness), as well as of the Liassic (up to 400 m) and Malm deposits has been ascertained. Dogger deposits have not been encountered. The Miocene deposits show a different structural plan in relation to the older substratum structures.
