Abstract

THE RESULTS OF BORE HOLE WARSZAWA IG-1

Summary
The results of bore hole Warszawa IG-1 are mainly concerned with the Zechstein deposits that reach here great thicknes unfortunately not pierced because of drilling failure. Only the oldest salt series (Werra) amounts here to 159 m, a fact being significant particularly when taking into account the peripheral situation of this area (Podlasie depression in the marginal zone of the East-European platform) in relation to the position of the proper salt basin in Poland.
The second important problem discussed in this paper is concerned with the stratigraphical boundary between the Dogger and Liassic that finally must be determined univocally, since the deposits resting above the green-grey mudstones of the Estheria beds have so far been referred to the Dogger, whereas, according to the older determinations (Iwiczna), the boundary under discussion runs somewhat higher up.
