Abstract

QUATERNARY CROSS SECTION IN THE VICINITIES OF OSTRÓW MAZOWIECKA

Summary
The paper deals with the development and stratigraphy of the Quaternary deposits occurring in the vicinities of Ostrów Mazowiecka (north-eastern area of Mazovia). The studies are based on the materials obtained from three bore holes that have pierced the Quaternary deposits ranging here from 179,6 m to 239,2 m in thickness. The following deposits have been distinguished in the Quaternary sequence: glacial deposits of two stages of the South-Polish Glaciation (Mindel) and those of three stages of the Middle-Polish Glaciation (Riss), separated by fluvioglacial, marginal lake and partly fluvial deposits, and by erosional surfaces, as well. Interesting is here a relatively complete stratigraphical sequence and its easy correlation with the Quaternary sections of other areas of Middle Poland.
