Abstract

PETROGRAPHY AND MINERALIZATION OF THE ZECHSTEIN DEPOSITS IN THE AREAS OF FORE-SUDETIC MONOCLINE AND OF PERICLINE OF ŻARY

Summary
In the areas of the Fore-Sudetic monocline and of the pericline of Żary (Lower Silesia) within peripheral parts of the Zechstein marine basin have sedimented incomplete deposits of the typical marine sedimentary cycle beginning with the clastic rocks and ending with the potash-magnesium salts. The four Zechstein cycles of the Fore-Sudetic zone are mainly built up of carbonate and anhydrite deposits. At the time of development of the Zechstein basin, a differentiation in petrographical character of the deposits took place in the area under study, particularly seen in cycles Z3 and Z4, caused by the local changes in the sedimentary environment.
A rich mineralization in Cu-Pb-Zn at the horizon of copper slate or immediately beyond and beneath it, is the characteristic feature of the deposits of cycle Z1.
Within the area of the Fore-Sudetic zone are found, beside the mineralized regions, also non-mineralized ones, with horizons if copper-bearing slates developed in the oxidized facies, the so-called "rote Fäule".
