Abstract

USE OF TERTIARY DEPOSITS FROM THE VICINITIES OF ZAKLIKÓW AND MODLIBORZYCE AS MINERAL RAW MATERIAL FOR CEMENT INDUSTRY

Summary
In the paper are discussed possibilities of using the calcareous and clayey deposits, particularly lithothamnium limestones of the Tortonian and Krakowiec clays of the Sarmatian, from the Zaklików and Modliborzyce vicinities (southern area of the Lublin region) in the cement industry.
The lithothamnium limestones distinguish themselves by a high (90%) content of CaCO3 and so far so substances injurious for cement production have been detected. Exposures of these limestones, most important as concerns quality and resources of the mineral raw material, are found in the areas stretching north of Zaklików and in the region of Modliborzyce. Here occur also exposures of slate clays of the Krakowiec series, which may serve as additional rock material necessary for maintaining the right proportions in mineral composition of the raw material used in cement production.
The data mentioned above may indicate possibilities of using the local raw material in cement industry, unless more detailed researches will show important deficiencies in quality and resources of the raw material considered.
