Abstract
CLAY MINERALS IN THE LOESS FORMATIONS OF THE HOLY CROSS MTS.
Summary
When analyzing changeableness of physical, mechanical and technological properties of loess formations from the Holy Cross Mts area, a particular attention was paid to the mineral skeleton of multi-phase system represented by loess formations, especially, however, to the mineral composition of clay fraction.
The separated clay fraction (dimensions of particles less than 0,002 mm) was examined by the following methods: colorimetric, analysis, thermal-differential analysis, electron-microscope analysis and x-ray analysis.
The results of the examinations discussed here allow to state that in all the loess fraction examined there occurs in the clay fraction only one mineralogical type, which may be thought to represent the hydromica one.
Owing to the lack of impalpable changeableness, the total, summary content, of clay fraction may represent one of the main factors connected with the mineral skeleton and influencing the changeableness of physical, mechanical and technological properties of the loess formations.
