Abstract

ON SUBDIVISION OF ZECHSTEIN OF THE HOLY CROSS MTS INTO FOUR SEDIMENTARY CYCLES

Summary
The author presents an attempt to subdivide the Zechstein of the Holy Cross Mts area, developed in marginal facies, into four sedimentary cycles. These correspond to the cycles established by Richter-Bernburg for the whole profile of the saliferous Zechstein.
On account of the incomplete Zechstein profiles in marginal facies, and owing to the lack of correlative key members for individual cyclothems, the four cyclothems cannot be everywhere distinguished in the Holy Cross Mts area.
Due to the presence of key memlbers two cyclothems – Z1 and Z2 are well documented in the northern part of the Holy Cross Mts. The remaining two cyclothems – Z3 and Z4 together, are not distinctly separated from the Buntsandstein.
In the southern part of the Holy Cross Mts are represented all four cyclothems. Their boundaries may easily be observed due to the repeatedly occurring conglomerates and conglomerate series, as well as coaly deposits, being equivalents of the following horizons: Zechstein limestone (Z1), Hauptdolomit (Z2) and locally Platten-dolomit (Z3).
