Abstract
LOWER SILESIAN OCCURRENCES OF AMETYST ON THE BACKGROUND OF WORLD DEPOSITS OF THIS STONE
Summary
The properties of amethyst, differing it from other varietes of quartz, and other features determining its usability for jeweller's trade and decorative art are discussed (on the example of Soviet normatives). Moreover, a somewhat simplified systematics of amethyst deposits, originally proposed by E. P. Kucenko (1973) and E. J. Kijewlenko et al. (1974), is given. Lower Silesian occurrences of amethyst are characterized on the basis of that systematics. Four regions of occurrence of that stone are distinguished: (1) Karkonosze, (2) Śnieżnik massif, (3) Kaczawskie Mts and (4) Śródsudecka depression. Moreover, some suggestions concerning the possibilities of utilization of Lower Silesian amethysts are given.
