Abstract

RESULTS OF SEISMIC STUDIES ON NE MARGIN OF THE HOLY CROSS MTS

Summary
The Enterprise of Geophysics of the Oil Industry at Cracow (PGGN - Kraków) started large-scale seismic (refraction) surveys of the south-eastern part of the Permian basin in the years 1970 - 1975. The surveys covered the whole area of Permian – Mesozoic margins of the Holy Cross Mts and Rawa - Gielniów anticlinorium. Taking into account the style of structure the area may be divided into southern and northern parts. The southern part is characterized by highly intense tectonics. The structural forms recorded here are characterized by fold-block structure. The seismic profiles from the northern part of that area display the influence of the tectonics of Zechstein salts. The seismic surveys carried out in that area have shown a marked inversion of position of Mesozoic-Zechstein complex in relation to sub-salinary Zechstein series. Large elevations of the Mesozoic are accompanied by both the increase in thickness of the Zechstein and the reduction in thickness of the Mesozoic, whereas there is a reduction of horizons of the Zechstein and an increase in thickness of the Mesozoic in the areas separating the elevations, The structural forms recorded in subsalinary deposits are situated beneath Mesozoic depressions or limbs of Mesozoic structures.
