Abstract

ON HYDROCHEMICAL ZONES OF THE BYTOM TROUGH

Summary
The article deals with the hydrochemical zones of the Carboniferous waters within the Bytom trough. In the area of this trough the following deposits may be distinguished: sandstone-slate complex of the Carboniferous beds which are overlain by the Triassic formations developed as clays and sands in their lower part, and as limestones, dolomites and marls in their upper part. AH these formations are covered by the loamy-arenaceous Quaternary deposits.
The author distinguishes here five classes of waters: a) fresh waters, b) light salty waters, c) strongly salty waters, d) salt waters and e) brines. It results of the data available that:
1. Carboniferous waters of the Bytom trough are characteristic of a zonality of mineralization increasing with the depth,
2. There is no relation between the position of individual stratigraphical series and their lithological development, and the water mineralization.
3. On account of chemical character, the waters may be subdivided into two groups.
