NEW TRENDS IN DETERMINING OF THE PRESSURE AND RESISTANCE OF THE GROUND
Summary
The question of pressure and resistance of ground represents one of the fundamental problems of ground mechanics. Knowledge, how to determine the right value of pressure and resistance of ground is very important when projecting and constructing various engineering objects.
The problem of pressure and resistance of ground appears in many cases. Among others, the following groups are to be stressed here, as most important ones:
l. problem of horizontal pressure,
2. problem of foundations,
3. problem of stability of slopes.
The author discusses in the paper the problems connected with the resistance of ground to shearing, models of ground environment, classical method of determining the pressure and resistance of ground, methods based on plasticity theory and others.
