Abstract

REMARKS ON OCCURRENCE OF THE H2S-SPRINGS IN THE DUNAJEC VALLEY Summary In the Dunajec valley there occur numerous H2S-springs connected with the formations of the Magura unit. The mineralization of the springs investigated ranges from 990,64 mg/l to 377,50 mg/l. The area of the Nowy Sącz vicinities is characteristic of bicarbonate-magnesium-calcium type of waters, whereas in the area of Czorsztyn there occur mainly waters of bicarbonate-sodium-magnesium-calcium type. The contents of H2S in the waters connected with formations of the Magura unit oscillate between 19,6 mg/l and quantities in traces. The higher contents of H2S is to be seen in a spring occurring in the Miocene deposit (63,9 mg/l). The H2S-springs found near Nowy Sącz, occur, in general, within the top part of the Submagura beds, near the black shales. The author supposes that H2S may exist in the investigated waters due to the reduction of sulphate ions. The bituminous shales and microorganisms occurring here, are factors causing the reduction there.
