Abstract

ON KNOWLEDGE OF THE PRODUCTIVE CARBONIFEROUS FORMATIONS IN THE SUBSTRATUM OF THE EASTERN PART OF THE POLISH CARPATHIANS

Summary
The microfloral analysis of the coal exotics originating from various stratigraphical horizons of the Przemyśl Carpathians (Figs. l and 2) shows their age to be lower Westphalian, and only in one case to be lower Namurian. As characteristic feature of the microspore-pollen spectrum there is to be seen the presence (up to 12%) of the forms not known in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin till now, the forms which occur within the basin of the Bug river. This fact, as well as the sedimentological facts (indexes of transport of material to the exotic horizons) allow to conclude that beneath the eastern part of the Polish marginal Carpathians there exists a new coal basin of a transitional floral character, between the two basins mentioned above. The existence of this "Subcarpathian basin" was already stressed previously (5, 11).
On the basis of analysis of other exotics accompanying the coals, a trial to reconstruct the palaeogeographic conditions existing during the Upper Cretaceous-Miocene time bas been made, too.
