Abstract

POSSIBILITIES OF OCCURRENCE OF POLYMETALLIC DEPOSITS IN THE NE MARGIN OF THE UPPER SILESIAN COAL BASIN

Summary
The article deals with the results of elaborations concerning mineralization, tectonic structure and volcanism of the northeastern margin of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin.
The occurrence of a polymetallic mineralization is to be seen over an area stretching between Cracow, Mrzygłód and Woźniki and runs, in the form of two belts, directly along the tectonic zones.
The area of this mineralization may be subdivided into an eastern and western zone. The eastern zone running from Mrzygłód, is characteristic of a paragenesis such as pyrite-chalcopyrite-sphalerite-galena-quartz-calcite-baryte-dolomite-ankerite. The western zone stretching from Zabierzów to Brudzowice shows a paragenesis like: pyrite-marcasite-zinc blende-galena-calcite-dolomite.
The tectonic structure of the north-eastern margin of the basin is not sufficiently known, at present. However, it may be said now that in the eastern part, there occur two anticlines: the western anticline of Dębnik, built up of the Devonian and Dinantian deposits, and the eastern anticline of Cracow, including the Silurian sediments. The boundary between these structures bears character of a tectonic contact.
