Abstract

RESEARCH AND PROSPECTING WORKS OF COPPER- ORE DEPOSITS IN POLAND DURING THE LAST 30 YEARS Summary The history of copper mining in the Lower Silesia, beginning from the XVI c., is briefly discussed. The major developments in the copper mining in the north-Sudetic basin took place at the end of the XIX c. Extensive research went on before World War II (1935-1937). The results of those investigations made a basis for the building of three mines which were subsequently destroyed during the war; some of the deposits were exploited out, others were recognized as being too poor for the exploitation. The studies conducted after the war surpassed the area of the copper-ore deposit prospecting in the past, Le. they entered the area of the Fore-Sudetic Monocline; this was in concordance with the research programme of the Geological Institute of Poland, assuming perspectives of occurrence of copper-bearing Zechstein sediments in the Fore-Sudetic Monocline. The year 1957 marked the recognition of the Legnica - Glogów copper region.
